Hope Squared Service Project: Details

My mom has been following this site for a while - http://www.crafthope.com/
We were going to participate with Craft Hope, but instead decided to make quilts for kids in our neck of the woods! We are going to do it as a family, me, my mom, Erin, Paige and Granny! Who we forgot is Jake and he never wants to be left out. Being the only boy, sometimes he is! Just so happens he is on a committee, the Purple Pack at Weber State University, and they are looking for service projects all the time!
They want to help too!

Sooo....to all my wonderful blogger friends and family I am inviting you to participate with us.
Here are the details:
DEADLINE
Nov. 18th for donations
Dec. 1st for completed quilts

IF YOU ARE COMPLETING A QUILT here are some suggestions:

We have decided to narrow it down to crib size quilts. This is a good size for a child and makes the measuring easy:

This size quilt requires 1 2/3 fabric or 60" long and 42 wide -A solid piece for the back.-For the front it is additional 1 2/3 fabric or 60" long and 42 wide, cut in squares.-It can be made from scrapes or coordinating fabrics. Anything goes!

Suggestions for square size --8x8 which means 5 across and 7 long = 35 squares. This will give you 2 inches extra on width and 4 inches extra on length. Good to bind the quilt.-Or 6x6 which means 7 across and 1o long = 70 squares. This is exact and you can sew the front to the back and turn inside out, and save the step of binding. However, with this, be careful of the selvage. It sometimes has white or printing on it.-The batting should be thin, and it comes in crib size - 60 x 45. Or you can purchase in from a roll.

HOWEVER, now I told you what we are doing, you can make any size you want!!!

IF YOU WANT TO DONATE - THIS IS WHAT WE NEED
1. finished quilts
2. fabric - any amount
3. 1 2/3 fabric for the back
4. batting
5. money
6. People to sew squares
7. Picture of you (emailed to greavesma@hotmail.com)
You might be in the Weber State Signpost! Jake is on a committee for Weber State University, the purple pack, and they are participating in this service project. They will be cutting squares of fabric for the quilts. Weber State wants to see how the community and the University are working together.
8. If you know of a specific need, let us know and we will consider it when deciding where to place these quilts!

We are donating these quilts locally in Ogden city. My mom has made many calls and she was shocked how much need there is for these quilts. TEAR TEAR! We will let you know where they are going, and if you have any suggestions please share with us!
Please email me to let me know what you will be donating, and I will email you to tell where to bring the donations. Any Questions, email my mom at: greavesma@hotmail.com
PS. Leave me a comment so I know who will be participating!!

A Girl Sitting In a Canoe

Have you ever seen the movie P.S. I Love You?
I SOB when I watch this movie.
Do you remember the scene when Holly is in the canoe with her friends?
The LOVE of her life has passed away.
She's LOST. She's CONFUSED. She's ANGRY. She's LONELY.
Her girlfriend spills the beans she getting married.
Her other girlfriend spills the beans she pregnant.
UTTER JOY for her friends.
UTTER GRIEF for Holly.
Everyone else is MOVING ON.
Holly has to FACE her REALITY.
She doesn't LIKE her reality.
Can't CHANGE her reality.
Has to DEAL with her reality.
She has GOOD things in her life,
but she doesn't have what she WANTS.
She's EXHAUSTED.
Holly says, "I'm alone, and it doesn't matter what job I have,
or what I do, or what I don't do, or what friends I have, he's not here.
I mean your alone no matter what."
Here's how I FEEL today.
I'm a GIRL, sitting in a canoe.
Shoes SAVED Holly.
Wonder what I will FIND?
Check back.

Going Private

I don't update my blog much so I am quite sure that no one is going to be too heartbroken that I am going private! I don't do many posts because I just feel like I don't want the whole world to know what is going on in my day to day life. I will be going private soon so I can start updating my blog more often without worry! If you want an invite let me know. I have created another blog that isn't private...it's a blog of my favorite things which include clothes, design, photography and cooking and is little less personal!

Happy 30th

My friends and I have started a tradition of making 30th Birthday Parties quite the event. It all started with my friend Steve, he was the first to turn 30. We decided it would be fun to get a billboard in his honor, yes a billboard!!!

Next was Scott's Birthday.

Scott loves "The Office" so we planned an "Office Beach Party" in his honor.

Then it was Tylor. We decided to have an 80's Party at the Rollerskating Rink.

Last Week was Natalie's. We had Casino night. So much fun!

Freak the next big celebration needs to not be a 30th Birthday, it needs to be a WEDDING!

Strong Woman vs. Woman of Strength

I got this quote a few weeks ago in Relief Society and haven't been able to stop thinking about it:

A strong woman works out everyday to keep her body in shape,
A woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape.

A strong woman isn't afraid of anything,
A woman of strength shows courage in the midst of her fear.

A strong woman won't let anyone get the best of her,
A woman a strength gives the best of her to everyone.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future,
A woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be God's blessings and capitalizes on them.

A strong woman walks sure-footed,
A woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face,
A woman of strength wears grace.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey,
A woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong

I Finally Moved Out!

So as we all know I have been living with my parents since my divorce. You may be scratching your head wondering why in the world would a 25 year old girl live with her parents until she was almost 29. Aren't those the type of people that get made fun of...30 year olds living in their parents basement. How did I become one of those!?! I don't have a really good answer to that question, but this is what I have concluded. I'm afraid. For the past four years I have been so fearful to move on with anything in my life or make any type of decisions. One of the most important decisions of my life resulted in SO much heartache and disappointment that I'm afraid to make another mistake in anything I do. It's so much easier to do nothing than to be responsible for where you end up. Even making the decision to move somewhere was overwhelming because what if the results were awful. About two months ago I decided it was was time to stop letting life pass me by and take one baby step forward.

I finally moved out! I moved into my friend Natalie's brand new townhouse in West Haven. Natalie and I have been friends since the 4th grade and she needed a roomie. We also work together, are in the same ward and have the same group of friends. I guess you could say we spend A LOT of time together, but it's been Great!
